Experience Overview

Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) is one of the most photographed landscapes in Peru. Its bands of red, yellow, green and lilac were formed by layers of mineral sediment over millions of years and were exposed as the glaciers retreated. This full-day Rainbow Mountain hike takes you from Cusco to the summit viewpoint at 5,036 m above sea level, facing the mighty Ausangate, the highest sacred mountain in Cusco.

The hike is short but challenging because of the altitude: roughly 1.5 to 2 hours up and 1 hour down. If you get tired, local community members offer horses along the trail (extra cost).
