Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour: Uros, Amantaní Homestay and Taquile
Community-based tourism on Lake Titicaca: spend the night with a local family on Amantaní Island, hike to the Pachamama and Pachatata temples, and visit the Uros Islands and Taquile.
Experience Overview
The 2-day / 1-night Lake Titicaca tour is a community-based tourism experience that lets you get a close-up look at life in the lake’s island communities. You visit the Uros Floating Islands, sail to Amantaní Island to spend a night with a local family, share their meals and join a traditional celebration, and the next day explore Taquile Island and its renowned textile tradition.
What you’ll experience
- Uros: man-made totora reed islands and the culture of one of the oldest peoples of the Altiplano.
- Amantaní: homestay accommodation, home-cooked meals made with island produce and a sunset hike to the Pachamama and Pachatata temples (4,100 m).
- Cultural night: your host family lends you traditional clothing for a party with local music and dancing.
- Taquile: textile art recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, terraced landscapes and a trout lunch.
About the accommodation
Homes on Amantaní are simple and welcoming: private or shared rooms, shared bathrooms and, in many cases, no hot water. It is a unique chance to experience Altiplano hospitality while directly supporting the families’ livelihoods.
What to bring
- A small backpack with warm clothes for the night (temperatures can drop below 0 °C), a beanie and gloves.
- Flashlight, sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses and a water bottle.
- A small gift for your host family (fruit, groceries or school supplies) is always appreciated.
