The Moray and Maras Salt Mines ATV tour is one of the most popular adventure activities in Cusco. You ride an ATV across the Maras plateau, with views of the snowcapped Verónica and Chicón peaks, and visit two of the most fascinating sites in the Sacred Valley: the Inca agricultural center of Moray and the Maras Salt Mines (Salineras de Maras).

What is Moray?

Moray is a set of concentric circular terraces carved into natural hollows in the ground. The Incas are believed to have used it as an agricultural laboratory: the temperature difference of several degrees between the top and the bottom allowed them to adapt crops to different altitudes.

What are the Maras Salt Mines?

They are more than 3,000 pools fed by a saltwater spring. As the water evaporates, local families harvest the salt by hand, a tradition that dates back to pre-Inca times.

DAY 01

Cusco – Cruzpata – Moray – Maras Salt Mines – Cusco

After pickup we drive to the ATV base near Maras. Following the briefing, we ride along dirt roads between farm fields to Moray, where we visit the circular terraces and learn about Inca agriculture. We continue by ATV to the Maras Salt Mines to walk among the salt pans and shop for salt and salt-based products. We ride back to the base and then return to Cusco.
