Experience Overview

The full-day Uros and Taquile tour is the best way to experience Lake Titicaca in a single day. In the morning you visit the Uros Floating Islands, built from totora reeds, and then cruise to Taquile, a natural island of terraced hillsides, stone archways and deep blue waters that recall the Mediterranean.

Taquile is famous for its textile art, proclaimed by UNESCO a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Here the men knit with needles while the women spin and weave on looms; their chullos (knitted hats) and sashes show each person’s marital status and role in the community. The island keeps a communal organization based on the Andean principles of do not steal, do not lie and do not be idle.

Tour highlights

  • The Uros Floating Islands and their ancient culture.
  • A walk across Taquile with views of the lake and Bolivia’s Cordillera Real.
  • Traditional lunch on Taquile: quinoa soup and fresh lake trout.
  • Visit to the main square and the textile cooperative.
