Experience Overview

Ica is the birthplace of pisco, Peru’s grape brandy with protected Designation of Origin, and the country’s leading wine region. On this Ica pisco and wine tour you’ll visit a long-established traditional winery and a family-run craft distillery to learn the whole process: from grapes on the vine to distillation in falcas or copper stills and resting in clay jars.

What will you learn?

  • The pisco grape varieties: Quebranta, Negra Criolla, Mollar, Uvina, Italia, Torontel, Moscatel and Albilla.
  • The types of pisco: puro, acholado and mosto verde.
  • Traditional grape stomping during the harvest season (February and March).
  • How to taste pisco: aroma, body and finish.

Tasting

At each winery you’ll sample piscos, sweet and semi-dry wines, and traditional pisco creams. At the end you can buy straight from the producer and also take home tejas and chocotejas, Ica’s signature sweets.

Good to know

  • Approximate duration: 3 hours. Morning or afternoon departures.
  • Pairs perfectly with Huacachina or the Ballestas Islands on the same day.
  • Tastings are for guests aged 18 and over.
